The Trap of “Why?” Questions — and the Way Out
We often get stuck in “why” questions:
Why does someone else have more than I do?
Why don’t I have a happy relationship?
Why am I ill?
Why are people treating me this way?
These questions are understandable. When we face pain or loss, our first reaction is usually to look for explanations. But the more we turn these questions over in our minds, the harder it becomes to break free from them.
“Why” questions anchor our attention to the current outcome of past choices or drifting. They strengthen the sense of lack, the feeling that life is merely happening to us. In doing so, we unconsciously keep ourselves on an energetic level that recreates the same circumstances again and again.
They focus our attention on the reality we see right now — and feed helplessness. As if we had fallen into a trap set by life itself.
As long as we see ourselves as victims of life, life will treat us accordingly.
But we are life. The decision of what we do, how we do it, and what we choose not to do is ours.
If you find yourself here now, know this: there is a way out.
There is a point where we can choose.
What if, instead of asking “why,” we asked:
– What can I do for myself right now?
– How could I take one small step forward in this situation?
– What tiny good thing can I still notice?
– How can I be a little gentler with myself today?
Life happens with us — because we are life. Our attention, feelings, and thoughts create our reality. And no matter how difficult things may feel right now, there is always one small step we can take.
Today, don’t cling to the “why.”
Cling instead to the direction you can move forward.
Because the energy you choose today becomes your reality tomorrow.
